Political Analyst Calls For Measures Against Corruption In Chicago Suburbs
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Political corruption does not stop at Chicago city limits.
As WBBM Newsradio's John Cody reports, political analyst and former alderman Dick Simpson is calling attention to corruption in the suburbs.
Simpson said one of the reasons officials can get away with corruption in the suburbs is the number of governments.
He cites 540 taxing bodies in Cook County and 1,200 in the metropolitan area.
He suggests a suburban inspector general and a hotline for citizens to report corruption could help remedy the problem.
The biggest challenge, according to Simpson, is changing the perception that political corruption only occurs within Chicago.
Simpson is a professor and chairman of the University of Illinois at Chicago political science department.
