Police: Woman Made Up Story Of Crystal Lake Attack
CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. (CBS) -- A woman could be in big trouble after Crystal Lake police say she made up a story about being attacked in an alley in the northwest suburb.
The 38-year-old woman told police around 4 p.m. June 6 that she had been attacked while walking alone in the alley on the east side of Williams Street, between Woodstock and Brinks streets. Police have not said what the woman claimed to have happened in the attack.
Police had spent more than two weeks tracking down leads and canvassing the area for witnesses, and they sought the assistance of outside law enforcement agencies.
But on Wednesday, investigators interviewed the purported victim a second time, and concluded that her claim was not true. The woman later admitted that she had made up the story of the attack.
Police have now forwarded the investigation to the McHenry County State's Attorney's office, where prosecutors will decide whether to charge the woman for making up the attack.
