Police: Woman Attacked By Knife-Wielding Man While Jogging In Bridgeview Park
(CBS) -- Bridgeview police are searching for a man they say stabbed a woman jogging through a park Tuesday night.
Around 9 p.m., police say they responded to an emergency call of an attack on a jogger at Founders Park at 8200 S. 78th Avenue. Officers arrived on the scene and discovered the 26-year-old victim who had been cut on her legs and upper torso with a knife.
Police say the assailant approached the jogger from behind and grabbed her, tearing her clothing and stabbing her. Police conducted an immediate search of the scene with K-9 units and a helicopter from the Cook County Sheriff's police.
"I cam out of the house and the whole park was filled with policemen, with flashlights searching," said Tim Murphy. "The even brought in a large light tower."
The woman is in stable condition at Advocate Christ Hospital recovering from non-life threatening injuries.
The suspect is described as a man about 40 years old, approximately 5'8" with a stocky build, gray beard and hairy arms.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Bridgeview police at 708-458-2131.
"We have small children at our house all the time and it's a pretty scary thing," said Rachel Lopez. "This is supposed to be their safe haven, where they play."
