Police Warn Public About West Side Sexual Assaults
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Chicago police may have a serial rapist on their hands on the West Side.
They say two sexual assaults happened in the 2700 block of West Jackson Boulevard in July and one in the 2700 block of West Adams Street in August. The have issued an alert, warning residents.
Community activist Andrew Holmes on Monday was out canvassing the area, handing out fliers.
A woman who said she was one of the victims talked with CBS 2 about being attacked.
She said she awoke on the couch to the perpetrator fondling her at 5 a.m. She says she was then sexually assaulted at knifepoint.
"The only place you feel safe is your house and then something like this happens, and it's just so sad," she tells CBS 2's Brad Edwards. "I smile to keep my head up, but deep inside I want to explode."
Neighbors in that block say their female postal carrier has been escorted by Chicago Police officers the past couple days.
Police said the attacks all took place between 5 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. They says the offender may wear a mask over his head and gloves on his hands.
The offender is described as between the ages of 16 and 20 and between 5 feet, 5 inches and 5 feet, 10 inches tall. He weighs about 145 pounds.
