Police Warn Of SW Side Strong-Armed Robberies
CHICAGO (STMW) - Police have issued an alert for Southwest Side residents regarding some strong-armed robberies on the street of gold chains.
Residents who live in the Chicago Lawn police district should be aware that in the month of August there have been armed robberies where the offenders -- between one to three men -- have approached their victims and forcibly taken gold chains, an alert from Wentworth Area detectives said.
The offenders then flee the scene in a burgundy or purple Jeep Cherokee 4-door carryall vehicle, police said. These robberies are taking place during the early evening hours, according to police.

The robbers are white Hispanic men, between 5-foot-3 and 6-feet-tall, between 170 and 210 pounds, who have worn dark clothing, the alert said.
Police urge residents of that area to:
• Avoid secluded areas such as parks, alleys and vacant lots during late night, early morning hours
• Always be aware of their surroundings
• Remain in well-lit areas at all times
• Walk in groups, when at all possible
• Have keys readily available when entering premises or a vehicle
Anyone who may have any information about these robberies is asked to contact Wentworth Area detectives, at (312) 747-8382.
