Police Warn Of Robberies, Kidnapping In Logan Square
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Police were warning residents in the Logan Square neighborhood of two recent robberies, including one in which they kidnapped the victim.
The first incident happened late Thursday night, when a young couple kidnapped a 32-year-old woman in the 2400 block of North Fairfield Avenue. The victim told police when she tried to get away, the man and woman displayed a gun, and said, "Don't make me do this."
Police said the kidnappers drove the woman to several ATMs, demanding she withdraw cash, but when the card didn't work, they drove her to Indiana, and dropped her off in Hammond. They stole her iPad, iPhone, and credit cards.
Two days later, a man and woman robbed a 26-year-old woman in the 2400 block of North Richmond Street, and robbed her at gunpoint. They also tried to force her into their car, but she got away.
Police said the robbers were both in their late teens or early 20s, and wearing dark hoodies. Police did not have sketches of the suspects.
Johnna Sachen has lived here in Logan Square for 13 years. It's changed and more gentrified, she says.
"When the neighborhood starts to gentrify, it does bring a certain amount of crime because they know people there are nicer cars there, people leave their computers in their cars, they've got the brand new cell phone."
Sachen has learned to be cautious.
"Things happen and you just have to know your surroundings and be smart," she said.
