Police say in both cases, two men armed with knives approached victims on the sidewalk and announced a robbery.

The first robbery happened about 3 a.m. on March 9 in the 700 block of North Clark Street, police News Affairs Officer Daniel O'Brien said. The second happened about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday in 1200 block of North Wells, he said.

The suspects are described as 20- to 40-year-old black men about 6-feet tall and 200 pounds, police said. Both wear hooded sweatshirts.

Police are advising residents to tell neighbors about the situation, avoid walking alone and in dark areas, and refrain from talking on cell phones while walking.
