Police Vehicle Bursts Into Flames On Bishop Ford
CHICAGO (CBS) -- An investigation is underway after a Chicago Police vehicle went up in flames overnight on the Bishop Ford Freeway.
The prisoner transport vehicle was up in flames when its engine caught fire around 11:15 p.m., police said.
Two Chicago Police officers, as well as a prisoner they were transporting, were able to make it out of the vehicle safely and were not injured, Greer said.
Flames grew to engulf the vehicle in the southbound lanes of the Bishop Ford Expressway (I-94) near King Drive, an Illinois State Police District Chicago trooper said.
Chicago Fire Department crews responded to extinguish the fire, the trooper said. All lanes have been re-opened following the incident.
