Police Vacation Day Policy Changed In Light Of Weis' Big Payout
CHICAGO (CBS) -- After a controversial payout to former police Supt. Jody Weis, the new superintendent is making some major policy changes.
Now, the Chicago Sun-Times reports, Supt. Garry McCarthy has reversed a policy change in the department last year, which had allowed command personnel to carry as many as 39 unused vacation days from one year to another. Only 25 vacation days can be carried over now, as was the case for all sworn personnel before the change.
City Human Resources Commissioner Soo Choi said the policy change could be implemented more broadly across city government, the Sun-Times reported.
In addition to Weis, his former chief of staff, Mike Masters, left his nearly $170,000 a year job with a payment of $30,448 for 54 unused vacation days, the Sun-Times reported last month.
