Police To Burglarized Store: Fingerprint Evidence Could Take A Year To Process
(CBS) – Thieves broke into a Midlothian automotive-accessory store three times in one night and stole tens of thousands of dollars' worth of loot.
Even though the crime was caught on videotape, it could be a while to get results.
Why? Because police say it may take a year to process fingerprint evidence left at the scene.
CBS 2's Brad Edwards reports.
The break-ins occurred Tuesday night and early Wednesday at The Tint Shop.
"Honestly, it's sickening, man. It's horrible," the manager says. "If they wanted a radio that bad, we could have worked with them."
During the night, thieves -- maybe the same – also broke into a strip mall. They took a Cash for Gold store for $1,800, the owner says.
Several cameras at The Tint Shop recorded the multiple break-ins. Operators of the shop shared the video with CBS 2 Thursday in hopes of solving the crime.
That is because they got additional bad news from police: It will take about a year to process fingerprint evidence.
The Midlothian Police Department confirmed it could take that long. The Illinois State Police, which runs the lab, agreed.
The total take from the automotive store: $20,000.
