Police: Three Men Abduct, Rape Teen Girl On Far South Side
(CBS) – A 14-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in the Roseland neighborhood, and Chicago police are looking for three suspects.
The teen tells police she was walking home near 113th and State at 6 p.m. Tuesday when three strangers approached her. Two of the men distracted the girl while a third struck her in the head, police said.
The men took the victim to an abandoned house and raped her, police said.
"We have to be safe," said Rev. C.B. Bradford "We have to have our children and our parishoners and everybody start walking in groups."
Bradford said residents are concerned about all of the abandoned buildings in the neighborhood.
"They have multiple abandoned properties on this block," Bradford said. "Something has to be done. We are already in a crime-ridden area."
While many of the buildings are boarded up in the front, one can easily get inside in the side or backyards.
"You have these predators coming back and they open [the buildings up] with a hammer or crowbar," said activist Andrew Holmes, who was passing out flyers about the assault.
City ordinance does require buildings to be boarded up and locked.
Residents hope this incident brings about more enforcement.
