CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. (STMW) - A northwest suburban teenage girl was apparently text messaging just before she lost control and smashed the Lexus she was driving into a home Sunday afternoon.
Police and firefighters responded to the 800 block of Wedgewood Drive in Crystal Lake about 1 p.m. and found a 1998 Lexus ES300 had struck a home, a release from Crystal Lake police said.
The driver of the car, a 16-year-old Crystal Lake girl, was not injured and no one in the home sustained injuries, the release said.

The teen was driving west on Country Club Drive when she left the roadway at a curve and traveled across a lawn before striking the home, causing extensive damage to both the car and building, the release said.
Police learned the girl was using a cell phone to send and receive text messages just prior to the crash, the release said. She was issued citations for failing to reduce speed to avoid a collision and improper use of an electronic communication device.
She was released to a parent, pending prosecution, the release said.
