Police: Teen Swimming With Friends Drowns In Bolingbrook Quarry
BOLINGBROOK, Ill. (STMW) -- A 17-year-old boy apparently drowned while swimming laps with friends Wednesday night in southwest suburban Bolingbrook, police said.
Three teens, all 17, started swimming laps across a water-filled section of the quarry at 1421 W. 135th St. about 7:30 p.m., Bolingbrook Police Lt. Mike Rompa said.
One teen started to struggle, went under the water and did not return to the surface, Rompa said. The other teens tried to help but were not successful.
A dive team from Plainfield located the boy just after 9 p.m., and he has since been pronounced dead, Rompa said. His identity was not being released late Wednesday.
Bolingbrook police are investigating.
