Police: Suspect Microwaved Someone Else's Pee To Cheat Test
SANDWICH, Ill. (CBS) -- A man thought he could cheat a drug test by taking someone else's urine sample, and heating it up in a microwave to make it appear to be his own fresh specimen.
But the plan failed miserably, and got him into serious trouble.
Police in Sandwich, Ill., were contacted by a DeKalb County Court Services probation officer on Tuesday, after Richard Crothers IV, 22, dropped off a urine sample that wasn't really his own at the Sandwich Courthouse.
Testing done on site revealed that the urine sample belonged to someone else, police said.
Crothers, of the 1900 block of Laverne Drive in Sandwich was charged with defrauding a drug and alcohol screening test, a Class 4 felony, the release said.
Police believe Crothers had someone else provide the urine sample, then heated it in a microwave and concealed the sample on his body. Then he turned it in as his own for the test, the release said.
Crothers was taken to the DeKalb County Jail in Sycamore to await a bond hearing.
