Police Step Up Patrols At Glenbard East H.S. After Unsubstantiated Threats
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Police in west suburban Lombard were taking no chances, sending extra officers to Glenbard East High School, after rumors of some type of violence.
The rumored threats were taken very seriously by school officials and police, but the investigation determined they were unsubstantiated and lacked credibility
Even so, police have added extra patrols at the school, and were increasing security measures on Friday.
Glenbard East Principal Josh Chambers told parents the rumors were never specific. They alluded to a shooting, or possibly blowing up the school, but after investigating the rumors, officials concluded students and staff are not in danger.
"Students need to be aware that we take statements that may cause others to be alarmed very seriously and will pursue consequences even when such incidents are intended as pranks," Chambers said.
More than 100 students were interviewed to get to the bottom of this.
