Police: Shopper Strikes Robber With Her Car
JOLIET (CBS) -- A shopper struck back at the man who allegedly tried to rob her in a parking lot by striking him with her car Sunday in southwest suburban Joliet.
The woman had just finished putting groceries in her car around 10 p.m. at Wal-Mart, 2424 W. Jefferson St. when two men approached her.
"Byron J. Adams, 31, went to the driver's door and told her to give him her purse," Cmdr. Al Roechner said. "When she said she didn't have one, he said he wasn't kidding and took out a black handgun."
Roechner said the woman ignored Adams and began to drive away. But then, she got angry.
"We were alerted when two people called 911 to report a silver Pontiac chasing a man through the parking lot and appearing to strike him before he ran away. While that was being reported, the driver called to say a man had just tried to rob her and she was following him," Roechner said.
Officers arrived and found Adams on Joyce Road. He was unarmed and did not require medical treatment. After being identified by the victim and witnesses, Adams, of the 500 block of Scribner Street, was booked into the county jail on a charge of armed robbery.
