Cops Shoot Man During Burglary Call

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Chicago police officers shot and wounded a man on the West Side near the United Center while responding to a burglary in progress Sunday morning.
Shortly before 7 a.m., police were called to a burglary in progress in the 2000 block of West Monroe Street, according to Chicago police.
Officers fired shots during the incident and wounded the offender, police said.
After the officer shot the man, that man shot allegedly hit an officer in the leg with the vehicle he was driving, pinning the officer against a building, police said.
The man shot by police was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County.
Fire Media Affairs Chief Kevin MacGregor said his condition was serious.
The officer was not seriously injured, but was taken to Rush University Medical Center for treatment.
The Independent Police Review Authority and Harrison Area detectives are investigating.
