Police Shoot, Kill Man In South Suburban Harvey
HARVEY (CBS) -- A suspected gang member was fatally shot by police Saturday night in south suburban Harvey.
About 7:52 p.m., police responded to the 200 block of East 143rd Street in Dolton for a call of shots fired and found a blue Chevrolet Tahoe with nine bullet holes, according to Dolton Police Chief John Franklin.
When officers arrived, the vehicle drove away and a police officer followed him in a marked vehicle, Franklin said.
The Tahoe went through at least four stop signs and continued until it turned into a parking lot in the 500 block of East Sibley Boulevard in Harvey, Franklin said.
The driver of the Tahoe got out of the vehicle and held up a loaded firearm toward the officer, who exited his vehicle without shifting into park, Franklin said.
The officer fired shots, killing the man.
The officer's vehicle continued moving slowly and hit a garage, causing minor damage to its door, Franklin said.
The man has been identified as 22-year-old Malcolm Franklin, according to the medical examiner's office. His home address was not known Sunday afternoon.
The man shot was found to be in possession of two firearms, Franklin said.
