Police Shoot Gun-Wielding Suspect In Albany Park

CHICAGO (CBS) -- One person was hospitalized Tuesday morning, after a being shot by police in the Albany Park neighborhood.
Around 9:05 p.m. Monday, Albany Park District tactical officers were on an assignment near Lawrence and Central Park Avenues, when they heard shots fired in the area and saw two people run off.

When the officers went to investigate further, one of the fleeing suspects pointed a gun at the officers, and the officer fired, police said.
The suspect was wounded and taken to an unspecified area hospital, police said. The suspect's condition was not listed.
The Independent Police Review Authority, which investigates all police-involved shootings, confirmed that police shot one person, a male whose age wasn't immediately known.
Officers recovered a weapon and no one else was hurt, the statement said.
Just after the incident about a block away, police shot a pit bill was apparently released to attack the officers.
Police pulled over a van in the 4800 block of North Central Park Avenue around 15 to 20 minutes after the suspect was shot nearby, and one of the occupants of the van quickly fled into the yard.
Soon afterward, a third person who had not been in the van released a pit bull toward the officers. One officer shot the pit bull. Gaines did not know the condition of the dog.
The two fleeing suspects were arrested, but were just being questioned Tuesday morning. The suspect that unleashed the pit bull, whose identity was not immediately available, was charged with aggravated assault.
