Police Shoot At Robbery Suspect In Little Village
CHICAGO (CBS) -- On person was shot Tuesday night and a Chicago Police officer opened fire on the gunman in the Little Village neighborhood on the Southwest Side.
Officers on patrol about 10:45 p.m. near Cermak Road and Marshall Boulevard saw what looked like an armed robbery taking place, said police News Affairs Officer Ronald Gaines.
The robber shot the victim in the back, Gaines said. The officers then chased the robber and fired shots, but no one was struck.
The robber was eventually taken into custody, while the robbery victim, a 28-year-old man, was taken in serious condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, Gaines said. The officers were not injured.
Charges were pending against the robber Wednesday morning, Gaines said.
Alfredo Garcia, 37, who has lived at that intersection for 10 years, said he heard nine gunshots and watched an ambulance take someone away from the scene.
"An undercover police officer was in his car right here, and someone shot right there," he said, gesturing toward the crime scene tape.
Garcia said he also watched someone get taken away in a squad car.
"It's getting pretty bad around here, they're always shooting," he said. "I didn't expect to see this in December."
