Police Shoot Armed Suspect On Southwest Side
CHICAGO (STMW) - Police doing narcotics surveillance Friday night in the Little Village neighborhood shot and wounded a man who reportedly pointed a gun at officers.
About 10 p.m. Friday, Mobile Strike Force officers saw the man with a handgun walking through a vacant parking lot in the 2200 block of South Kolin Avenue -- an area known for drug activity and gang conflict, according to a police News Affairs release.
After the officers announced their authority and ordered the suspect drop the weapon, he allegedly pointed the gun at police, the release said. The officers then shot him.
Emergency crews took one person from the shooting to Mount Sinai Hospital with trauma, a fire department spokesman said.
No one else was injured and a weapon was recovered from the scene, the release said.
Harrison Area detectives and the Independent Police Review Authority -- which investigates all police-involved shootings -- are investigating.
An IPRA spokesperson did not immediately respond to calls seeking comment.
