Police Seek Public's Help After Teen Is Fatally Shot Near Home

CHICAGO (STMW) - Police are seeking the public's help in solving a murder that claimed the life of a 17-year-old boy Sunday evening just a block from his Southwest Side Marquette Park neighborhood home.

About 5:45 p.m., a 17-year-old boy was walking in the 2500 block of West 65th Street when he was shot in the chest by an unknown assailant, police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said. He died on the scene from his injuries.

The victim has been identified as Montreal Montgomery, 17, of the 6500 block of South Talman Avenue, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Wentworth Area detectives are investigating, but no one is in custody.

On Monday, police issued a community alert seeking the public's help in solving the murder. The public is asked to call detectives at (312) 747-8380 with any information.
