Police Seek Driver Who Struck West Side Church, Fled
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Police are looking for the driver who crashed an SUV into a West Side Garfield Park neighborhood church Monday morning before running away.
It happened about 7 a.m. in the 3000 block of West Washington Boulevard, police said.
The Hyundai Santa Fe was heading north on Albany when the motorist drove onto a lot and ultimately struck the side of St. Stephen AME Church, police said.
The SUV was towed, but the driver apparently ran away after crashing into the church and was not in custody Monday afternoon, police said.
No one was hurt in the crash and it appears the damage to the church was only visible on one side of the building, police said.
