Police Search For Suspect After Chase In Western Suburbs

LOMBARD, Ill. (CBS) -- Police searched with dogs on the ground and a helicopter in the air early Tuesday, as police searched for a suspect who led them on a chase after allegedly burglarizing a Wood Dale home.
As CBS 2's Susanna Song reports, Lombard police originally advised people to stay inside. But by 11 a.m., they had scaled back the search and were telling residents to go about their business and not to worry, as they believed the suspect was no longer in the area.

Officers conducted a second ground search Tuesday morning -- looking through garages, campers, and foreclosed or abandoned homes. They also went door-to-door asking residents to call 911 if they saw something suspicious.
Police say the suspect and another man burglarized a Wood Dale home around midnight. One man was arrested, but the second man sped off in his car.
The suspect crashed into a car on North Avenue in Villa Park, until he got into Lombard.
"The vehicle crashed about a block away from St. Charles and Crescent," Lombard Deputy Police Chief Pat Rollins said.
When the fugitive got into downtown Lombard, police say he was almost caught.
"He wound up crashing his car, and fleeing into a residential area – a heavily wounded residential area, said Lombard Police Chief Ray Byrne.
Police closed St. Charles Road from Park Avenue west to Crescent Boulevard while they searched for the offender.
But Byrne said the police no longer believe the people in the area are in danger.
"We don't at this time, because throughout the night, we did a really extensive aerial search. We had a ground search, and we had four canines that were brought into the area," he said, "and typically, they would locate somebody hiding there."
The car was towed to the Wood Dale police station. It is likely that the Wood Dale police know who they're looking for, and it considered just a matter of time before a warrant is issued for his arrest.
