Police Search For Driver Who Critically Injured 9-Year-Old Girl

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Police are looking for the reckless driver who hit and critically hurt a 9-year-old girl in the South Side's Auburn-Gresham neighborhood.

The girl was hit by a car around 8:45 p.m. Wednesday near 87th and Aberdeen streets, police said. She had been walking with her mother at the time.

The vehicle that hit her is described as a black 4-door, mid-sized car. After hitting the girl, the driver sped off west on 87th Street, according to a Community Alert from Gresham District police.

Emergency crews transported the girl to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to Fire Media Affairs.

She was initially in "very critical condition," according to Fire Media Affairs.

As of Friday, police were still seeking the car, which likely sustained front-end damage, according to the alert.
