Police Search For Driver In Fatal Hit-And-Run In Waukegan
(STMW) -- A north suburban man struck by an SUV in a hit-and-run accident on Sunday night has died, and police are looking for both the driver and the vehicle.
Waukegan police responded about 11:40 p.m. to an accident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian near Tamera Court and Butrick Street, a statement from police said.
The vehicle had driven off, leaving the man "severely injured in the street," the statement said.
The pedestrian, identified as 21-year-old Adrian Gonzalez of the 2100 block of South Lewis Avenue in North Chicago, was taken to Vista Hospital in Waukegan suffering "major head trauma," police said.
Gonzalez died of those injuries on Thursday.
The police Traffic Division is seeking information on the accident. Witnesses told police Gonzalez was struck by a grey or silver SUV, last seen northbound on Butrick Street approaching Grand Avenue.
