Police Search For Car That Struck, Killed Elderly Man
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Police continue to look for the Mercedes-Benz that drove off after fatally striking an elderly man crossing an Auburn Gresham street Wednesday morning on the South Side.
Arthur Johnson, 77, was walking east across 83rd Street when a Mercedes-Benz traveling north on Racine Avenue struck him about 7:05 a.m., authorities said. The car did not stop after the crash.
Johnson, of the 8200 block of South Throop Street, was thrown into the air and then struck his head, authorities said. Johnson was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 7:42 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
An autopsy on Thursday found Johnson died of multiple blunt force injuries from an automobile striking a pedestrian, and his death was ruled an accident, according to the medical examiner's office
Police are looking for a 2002-05 dark, two-door Mercedes-Benz C230, police said. The car has a damaged passenger-side windshield and driver's-side hood.
