Police Say They're Ready For Crowds If Cubs Win Pennant
CHICAGO (CBS) – The city is bracing for more celebrating this weekend if the Cubs clinch a spot in the World Series.
Rich Guidice of the Chicago Office of Emergency Management and Communications describes a coordinated effort of uniformed and undercover cops on foot, on horseback and on bikes blanketing Wrigley Field. The Cubs lead 3-2 in the National League Championship Series, with Game 6 set for Saturday at 7:08 p.m.
Chicago Police Supt. Eddie Johnson likewise thinks the city is covered.
"We are not going to give you the game plan, but I can tell you this: We're ready for anything that might come that way," he said Friday.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel appeared confident any public postgame party wouldn't be spoiled by rowdy fans.
"People have celebrated before, and they'll do it appropriately," he says.
Wrigleyville Ald. Tom Tunney expects traffic restrictions around the park about an hour from game time Saturday. Additional restrictions and possible closures could follow by the fifth inning.
Police will be stopping deliveries around 5 p.m. around the ballpark.
