Police: Robber With Fake Gun Shot By Calumet City Bakery Owner Seven Times
(CBS) -- Police in Calumet City say they don't expect charges against a bakery owner who shot a robber seven times - after the robber threatened the owner Tuesday with what turned out to be a fake gun.
It was the Calumet City Bakery that robbers targeted, says Calumet City Police Chief Edward Gilmore. Gilmore says the robbers had what looked like a gun - but was actually a fake.
Two robbers pushed an employee toward the back of the bakery - and then accosted the owner - and Gilmore says that's when the owner pulled out a gun and opened fire: firing seven times and hitting one of the robbers seven times.
Gilmore says the store owner had a valid firearm owner's card.

"And while we don't advocate citizens taking the law into their own hands, it appears this store owner did all he could to wait until the very last moment when he felt his life and the life of his employee was in actual jeopardy before he drew a weapon and fired at this offender."
WBBM: So no charges will be filed against the owner then?
"Not based upon what I know at this time."
Chief Gilmore says the robber who was shot is expected to recover. The other man got away.
