Police Release Surveillance Image Of Logan Square Rapist
CHICAGO (STMW) - Police have released a surveillance image of a man wanted for sexually assaulting a woman at gunpoint Wednesday night in the Logan Square neighborhood.
The incident happened about 10 p.m. in the 2900 block of West Belden Avenue after the 37-year-old woman shopped at a nearby store, Shakespeare District police Lt. Michael Mulkerin said.
The suspect put a gun to the woman's neck in a front yard and pushed her into a gangway, where he sexually assaulted her, the lieutenant said.
"She started yelling for help and he jumped off her and ran towards the back of the yard and he had her phone," the lieutenant said.
Two men in the area heard her screaming and ran after the man -- even jumping a fence. But they stopped when the suspect pointed the gun at them. The suspect was last seen running northbound on North Sacramento and then east on West Medill avenues, the lieutenant said.
The men recovered her cell phone, which the suspect dropped before running away, and police are hoping to recover fingerprints from it.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic man between the ages of 17 and 20, according to the alert. He is 5-foot-7, 185 pounds with a dark complexion and a "fade" haircut.
A community alert issued by Grand Central Area detectives said "little or no neck'' is visible on the suspect and he has "permanently shrugged' shoulders, meaning his shoulder blades appear to be "raised'' above his neckline, police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said.
He was last seen wearing a checkered or striped shirt, which was possibly white and orange or white and red. He was also wearing tan cargo shorts, according to the alert.
The suspect did not fire the gun and the police took the woman to Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center.
