Police Recover $100,000 In Marijuana From W. Side Home

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Garbage bags filled with about $100,000 worth of marijuana and several weapons were recovered from a West Side home by Chicago Police executing a search warrant early Tuesday.

About 12:30 a.m., police entered a residence in the 700 block of North Laramie Avenue after gathering information on suspected narcotics activity, a release from police said.

During the search, officers discovered large, black garbage bags containing about 35 pounds of vacuum-sealed packs of cannabis, packaged for distribution.

Claude Washington, 32, who lived at the home, was arrested and charged with manufacture/delivery of over 5,000 grams of cannabis, the release said. He also faces three felony counts of possession of a firearm by a felon, among other charges.

He was expected to appear for a bond hearing on Wednesday, police said.
