Police Question Teens In Robbery That Sent Woman Fleeing To Her Death
(CBS) – Chicago police reportedly are questioning several people in connection with an armed robbery that led to the death of a Chicago mother over the weekend.
CBS 2's Lauren Victory reports from Area Central police station, where the young men turned themselves in late Tuesday, according to community activist Andrew Holmes.
He says five young men came in for questioning, after police distributed surveillance pictures of a group of people wanted in connection with the death of Pamela Johnson, 32.
Authorities say the group tried to rob Johnson and her boyfriend in the 600 block of North Lake Shore Drive Saturday morning. Johnson is said to have been so scared she ran into traffic, where a truck fatally struck her.
One family member of one of the young men say there was a misunderstanding and that they young men were themselves being chased by someone else with a gun.
A friend of some of those on the group, April Jessup, said: "They were being chased by some thugs with two big old guns and they started running. If you got a gun pointed towards your back, who is not going to run?"
Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi told WBBM's Steve Miller that detectives are questioning seven people.
"We received a lot of tips and community intelligence when we released the photos," he said.
