Police Question Parents In Jefferson Park Baby's Death
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Police are questioning the parents of a 3-month old Jefferson Park girl who died on Tuesday as a result of several injuries from child abuse.
Jayden Tufele, of the 5100 block of West Ainslie Street, was pronounced dead at Children's Memorial Hospital at 5:12 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. An autopsy on Wednesday determined she died of multiple injuries from child abuse and her death was ruled a homicide.
Grand-Central Area detectives were investigating Jayden's death and police were questioning her parents, but no charges had been filed as of Wednesday afternoon, police said.
Police said Jayden suffered a fractured collarbone, four rib fractures, bleeding on the brain in two areas and retinal hemorrhages in both eyes. She also had suffered two rib fractures that had been healing.
Allegations of abuse against Jayden's mother and father are being investigated by the Illinois Dept. of Children and Family Services, according to DCFS spokesman Kendall Marlowe. He said there were no other children in the home and the agency has had no prior contact with the family.
Police are also quetioning the parents, a 23-year-old man and 19-year-old woman who lived with Jayden at the Ainslie address. They were taken into custody at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, but no charges had been filed as of Wednesday afternoon.
