Police Prisoner Transport Van Breaks Down On Dan Ryan
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A Chicago Police prisoner transport van broke down Friday morning on the Dan Ryan Expressway, forcing police to transfer 27 inmates to another vehicle.
Around 7:45 a.m., the vehicle broke down on the Dan Ryan at 34th Street for mechanical and electrical problems, according to police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli.
The vehicle was transporting 27 prisoners, who were on their way to local domestic and criminal courts.
Illinois State Police assisted in the transfer of the prisoners to another vehicle, without any interference with traffic, Mirabelli said.
But a witness said traffic came to a halt as people stopped to see the action.
The van was towed away for repairs, Mirabelli said.
