Police: Pedestrian Killed In Avondale Hit-And-Run
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A pedestrian was killed early Sunday in a hit-and-run crash in the Northwest Side Avondale neighborhood, police said.
The crash happened just after midnight in the 3000 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Ronald Gaines said.
A witness said the man was attempting to cross Milwaukee Avenue in the crosswalk when a black SUV driving southbound at a "high rate of speed" struck him, police News Affairs Officer Daniel O'Brien said. The driver fled the scene.
Ronald Lee Hurbert, 51, was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he died at 1:10 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
No one is in custody as of Sunday night, O'Brien said.
An autopsy Sunday determined Hurbert died of multiple injuries from an SUV striking him and his death was ruled an accident, according to the medical examiner's office.
The Major Accidents Investigation Unit is investigating.
