Police Officer, Other Driver Injured In Crash Near Mag Mile
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A police squad car headed to an emergency call just off the Magnificent Mile was hit by another driver Friday morning, leaving both the officer and the other driver injured.
Around 8 a.m. Friday, the Near North District officer was headed to an emergency call near the Regent building at 190 E. Walton St., with the lights and sirens activated on his squad car, police said.
As he headed east on Oak Street approaching Michigan Avenue, a 29-year-old woman struck his squad car as she drove her Acura TL, police said.
Neither the officer nor the other driver were seriously injured, although one of them was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious to critical condition, according to Fire Media Affairs.
The woman was listed in good condition later Friday morning with cuts to her hand; and the officer was also in good condition with soreness to his shoulder, police said.
The woman appears to have failed to yield to an emergency vehicle as required by law, and traffic citations are pending, police said.
