Police Officer Injured During Scuffle With Shooting Suspect
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A Chicago police officer is in the hospital this morning after a shootout in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood.
Police say they were patrolling in the area of 79th and Marshfield around 10 p.m. on Tuesday when they saw the suspect shoot and kill another man.
Officers say they shot and critically wounded the suspect when he fired at them.
The injured officer was not shot -- but was slightly injured during a scuffle.
He was taken to a hospital for observation.
Brian Nailer, 31, of the 10000 block of South Wallace, was shot dead by the gunman, authorities said. Nailer did not appear to be armed when the suspect shot him, said Fraternal Order of Police spokesman Pat Camden.
