Police Officer, 2 Others Hurt In Alcohol-Related Crash In Englewood
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A Chicago police officer and two others were injured in an alcohol-related crash in the Englewood neighborhood early Wednesday.
The crash, which involved a squad car, occurred about 12:45 a.m. in the 7400 block of South Halsted Street, police said.
Two police officers from Gresham District were standing on the street conducting a traffic stop when a dark-colored SUV struck the passenger door of the officers' squad car, police said. One officer and the two men who were initially stopped were struck by the car, police said.
The officer who was struck jumped in an attempt to avoid being hit and landed on the sidewalk, injuring his knee, police said.
The crash was alcohol-related, police said.
The officer was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with non life-threatening injuries and was released early Wednesday morning, police said. The other officer was not injured.
The two other men who were struck were taken to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center with non life-threatening injuries and were also released, police said.
The man who struck the squad car is in custody, police said.
