Police: No Tickets In Fatal Morgan Park Crash
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Police said no citations would be issued for a deadly crash in the Morgan Park neighborhood on Tuesday, because the driver who was killed was at fault.
WBBM Newsradio's Bernie Tafoya reports 36-year-old Dennis Canady was driving a Buick LeSabre in a funeral procession when he got separated from the rest of the group.
Police said he was trying to get back in line when his car clipped a beverage truck in the 10900 block of South Vincennes Avenue, then went into oncoming traffic.
The Buick crashed head-on into a Lincoln driven by a female senior citizen, police said.
Four people in the LeSabre were trapped in the car until firefighters were able to get them out.
"They were pinned in. The car had collapsed around them; people in the front seat, and the back seat," Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford said.
A 3- or 4-year-old girl who was in one of the cars was able to crawl out on her own.
In all, eight people were injured in the crash. Canady died of his injuries at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
Two other adults and the girl were taken to hospitals in serious to critical condition. Three other adults were hospitalized in fair to serious condition. The truck driver refused to be taken to a hospital.
