Police Nab An Alleged Phony Cop
BOLINGBROOK, Ill. (STMW) - A phony cop is in jail after reportedly trying to bluff his way past a real one Sunday.
State Trooper Maria Navarro said an officer was turning around at Interstate 55 and Route 53 to return to District 2 at 11:51 p.m. when he noticed the vehicle ahead had expired registration.
Randy J. Adamovitz, 49, reportedly informed the trooper he was a Chicago police officer who had just finished his shift and was going to visit his girlfriend in Bolingbrook.
"He showed a Chicago police badge and identification card," Navarro said. "Further investigation showed he had been employed by the department at one time, but not since 2006."
Adamovitz, of W. 65th St. in Chicago, was arrested and booked into the county jail on a felony charge of impersonating a police officer. Records indicate Adamovitz is currently employed as a security guard at a large retailer in Bridgeview.
