Police: Motorist Drives Over, Kills Former Co-Worker In Maywood

MAYWOOD, Ill. (CBS) -- Police say a fight over a woman led a former Hines VA Hospital worker to kill a colleague over the weekend.
As WBBM Newsradio's Nancy Harty reports, Tyrone Carter, 48, was run over by a motorist he used to work with at the hospital, following a Saturday night fight in west suburban Maywood.

Police responded about 6:20 p.m. Saturday to a fight outside a Popeye's at 1019 W. Roosevelt Rd. and found Carter unresponsive on the ground, Maywood police Chief Tim Curry said in a statement.
Carter was apparently run over by a vehicle and police are calling the attack vehicular homicide. Carter was pronounced dead at 6:37 p.m. Saturday at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, according to the medical examiner's office.
A Sunday autopsy determined Carter died of multiple injuries from a vehicle striking a pedestrian and the death was ruled a homicide, the medical examiner's office said.
Curry said a 53-year-old Broadview man is in custody Sunday morning. The suspect had worked with Carter at the Hines VA Hospital, but his current employment status was unknown Sunday morning.
"This incident ended tragically as a result of a violent encounter between both parties' just minutes prior to this incident," Curry said in the statement.
Carter's friends and relatives tell the Chicago Sun-Times that he and his alleged killer had had run-ins before.
They tell the Sun-Times Carter's relationship with a woman angered the other man, who used to date the woman in question.
The paper says Carter accused the man of trying to run him over in the hospital earlier this year.
Carter was a janitor at Hines VA Hospital. His supervisor says the only person who didn't like Carter is the man who is being held in his murder, the Sun-Times reported.
