Police: Men Were Drunk When They Slipped Into River
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Investigators say two men who fell into the Chicago River's North Branch near Goose Island overnight were drunk.
The Fire Department responded to a call around 1 a.m. Tuesday, after someone was spotted in the river behind the Home Depot store, near Magnolia and North avenues.
The men had been drinking by the banks of the river and ended up slipping into the water, Shakespeare District police said.
Crews rescued both men and took them to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
As of 6 a.m. Tuesday, one of the men was in critical condition, while the other man's condition had stabilized, police said.
