Police: Men Post Fake Ads For Cars, Rob Victims At Gunpoint
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Police say three men are posting fake craigslist.com ads offering vehicles for sale, then luring potential buyers to Chicago yards and gangways on the South and Southwest sides to rob them at gunpoint.
Robberies were reported between March 28 and April 19 near the 7900 block of South Troy, 6900 block of South Wabash, the 200th block of East 90th Place, the 8100 block of South Honore and the 11800 block of South Justine, according to a Calumet Area detectives community alert.
The offenders posted several classified ads in out-of-state craiglist websites, advertising vehicles for sale. After being contacted by potential buyers, the offenders tell them the vehicle is at a specific location in Chicago for physical viewing and inspection, the alert said.
And when the potential buyer arrives, one man lures them into a yard or gangway, while two others rob them at gunpoint, the alert said.
All the robberies have occurred between 3 p.m. and 12:45 a.m.
The offenders are all black men between 21 and 28. One is between 6-foot-2 and 6-foot-4 and 170-185 pounds. The two others are between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-10 and were armed with a black semi-automatic handgun.
