Police: Man Tried To Kidnap Girl On Lake Shore Drive
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Police are looking for a man who tried to kidnap a 12-year-old girl near Lake Shore Drive and Irving Park Road during the weekday morning rush earlier this month.
Around 7:20 a.m. Jan. 6, the girl was waiting for a Chicago Transit Authority bus in the 3900 block of North Lake Shore Drive to go to school, when a man she didn't know walked up.
After an exchange of "good mornings," the girl realized the man had gotten behind her, police said. She stepped away, but the man asked if the girl wanted "to go to his apartment."
When the bus arrived, the girl said no. She sat far away from the man, who also got on the bus, police said.
The man exited the bus at Addison Street, about three blocks south. The girl got off at Belmont Avenue and went to her school, where she reported the incident to staff and police.
The would-be kidnapper is described as an African-American male in his 60s, standing about 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighing 140 to 160 pounds, with a light complexion, brown eyes, long black hair, and glasses with a brown frame.
The man was last seen wearing a brown jacket, brown pants, brown, heavy-rimmed glasses, and a brown hat with ear flaps, police said.
Anyone with information should call Belmont Area police detectives at (312) 744-8266.
