Police: Man Spends Counterfeit Cash At Near North Side Clothing Stores
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Police are warning Near North Side businesses of a man using counterfeit currency to buy clothing at area stores
The man enters retail clothing stores and attempts to purchase single items of clothing with counterfeit $100 bills, according to an alert from Area Central detectives.
The man then receives real cash as change, police said.
The transactions happened about 2:25 p.m. Jan. 22 in the 1500 block of North Halsted Street and at 12:28 p.m. Jan. 24 in the 500 block of West North Avenue, police said.
The suspect is described as a 5-feet-9 to 6-feet-2 black man between 150 and 175 pounds, police said. He is believed to be between 20 and 27 years old.
