Shootings Leave 2 Dead, 7 Wounded

CHICAGO (CBS) - Shootings in Chicago Wednesday night and early Thursday morning left two people dead and seven more injured – including four who were wounded in one incident in the Englewood neighborhood.
The earliest deadly shooting happened well before sundown Wednesday in the East Garfield Park neighborhood. A man identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's office as Freddie Howard Hill, 49, was shot in the abdomen in the 2800 block of West Wilcox Street around 5:30 p.m., police said.
Hill, of the 7200 block of South Sangamon Street, was taken to Stroger Hospital of Cook County, where he was pronounced dead at 6:05 p.m., authorities said.
At 8:56 p.m., another man lost his life to gunfire in the Grand Boulevard neighborhood.
Freddie Williams, 21, was shot in the head in his home in the 700 block of East 50th Street, where he lived, authorities said.
Further details were not immediately learned.
A 17-year-old teenager was shot on Thursday morning near the Community Youth Development Institute. The victim, who was shot in the lower right leg around 8 a.m. in the 7800 block of South Union Avenue, ran inside the school after he was struck. It is not known if he was a student there.
A shooting in the Englewood neighborhood at 12:49 a.m. Thursday left three men and a 15-year-old boy wounded.
Three men, ages 20, 22 and 25, and the teenage boy, were sitting on a porch in the 400 block of West 65th Place, when several suspects came out of a gangway and at least one opened fire, police said.
The 20-year-old was taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest, the 25-year-old was taken in serious condition to Stroger with a gunshot wound to the leg, the 22-year-old was in good condition at St. Bernard Hospital with a gunshot wound to the foot, and the 15-year-old was taken in serious condition to Comer Children's Hospital at the University of Chicago Medicine with a gunshot wound to the leg, police said.
In a separate earlier incident, a man was reported in good condition at St. Bernard after being shot in the leg in the Back of the Yards neighborhood.
The man, 18, was shot in the leg near the intersection of 52nd and Bishop streets about 11:47 p.m. Wednesday, police said.
And around 12:17 a.m. Thursday, a man was shot in the back, again in the East Garfield Park neighborhood.
The The 31-year-old man was shot in the back in the 2600 block of West Jackson Boulevard about 12:17 a.m., said.
He told detectives he was getting into his van when he heard shots and felt pain, but didn't see anything, according to police.
He was taken in fair condition to Stroger Hospital, police said.
The scene of that shooting was only a few blocks from the site where Howard Hill was shot Wednesday evening, although police have not given an indication that the incidents are related.
No one was in custody in any of the shootings Thursday morning.
