Police: Man Impersonated Cop, Stole Principal's Things
CHICAGO (STMW) - A man was caught on tape at a Northwest Side high school allegedly impersonating a Chicago Police officer and stealing the principal's personal possessions, including an iPod and a digital camera.
Clarence George, 20, of the 4700 block of South Ellis Avenue, was charged with one count each of burglary to a school and aggravated impersonation of a police officer, both felonies, police News Affairs Officer Darryl Baety said.
George was charged with an aggravated count because he implied the use of a real weapon as he made his way through the school, police said.
The burglary happened Dec. 17 at Foreman High School at 3235 North Leclaire Avenue. George allegedly walked into the school in a "makeshift police uniform" and went into the principal's office, stealing a laptop computer, digital camera, iPod and thumb drive from a briefcase in the office, Baety said.
George allegedly identified himself as an Austrin District police officer and was armed with handcuffs and a pellet gun, Baety said.
He is scheduled to appear for a bond hearing Wednesday afternoon.
