CHICAGO (CBS) - A teenager was beaten to death over the weekend in the North Side's Budlong Woods neighborhood.
The 18-year-old man -- identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's office as Peter Yalda -- was attacked about 7:45 p.m. in the 2500 block of West Balmoral Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Daniel O'Brien said.
Witnesses told police that five to six males beat the man and may have used a bat or pipe, O'Brien said.
When responding officers arrived, paramedics were treating the man on the scene, police said. Yalda, of 5015 N. California Ave., was pronounced dead at 7:46 a.m. at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, the medical examiner's office said.
Authorities said Yalda suffered head trauma. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday, the medical examiner's office said.
The men fled east in a black sport-utility vehicle and are not in custody Monday night.
The scene of the crime is steps from the Lincoln District police station, at 5400 N. Lincoln Ave.
Belmont Area police detectives are investigating the death.
