Police: Man Beat Woman With Hammer, Raped Little Girl, Stabbed Dog
CARPENTERSVILLE, Ill. (CBS) -- A Carpentersville man is being held on $3 million bond on multiple heinous crimes – including beating a woman with a hammer, raping an 8-year-old girl, and stabbing a dog.
As WBBM Newsradio's Mike Krauser reports, the story of the crimes allegedly committed by Daniel Happ, 27, is so horrific that it reads like fiction. But police say it is very real.

Responding to a disturbance call, police were called to the 120 block of Brookdale Drive in Carpentersville around 12:50 a.m. Wednesday. They found Happ walking around inside the home, where a 23-year-old woman lived.
Inside, police say, Happ had hit the woman repeatedly in the head with a hammer, sexually assaulted the woman's 8-year-old daughter, and stabbed their dog. While sexually assaulting the girl, police said, he threatened to use the hammer on her too.
Police found the woman and the girl inside. The woman was unconscious.
The woman was taken to Sherman Hospital in Elgin for treatment, and police had not yet been able to interview her Thursday, because of her condition, Carpentersville police Cmdr. Tim Bosshart said.
The girl has met with professionals at the Kane County Child Advocacy Center, who deal with young victims.
The family dog was found with stab wounds, but survived. The dog was being treated by an area veterinarian, Bosshart said.
Happ, of the 1600 block of Seminole Drive in Carpentersville, has been charged with Class X felony counts of attempted murder, armed violence/committing a felony with a Category 2 weapon and predatory criminal sexual assault against a child under the age of 13; and two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault. He also was charged with felony counts of aggravated battery, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and aggravated cruelty to animals.
Happ was being held in the Kane County jail in lieu of bond, and was given a March 21 court date.
