Man Shot To Death In Little Village
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 41-year-old man was shot to death in the Little Village neighborhood early Sunday.
The shooting occurred at 4 a.m. in the 2600 block of South Tripp Avenue.
Officers responding to a call of shots fired and a person shot found the victim lying in the grass of a front yard there, police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez said.
The victim, who according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office is a 41-year-old man, was shot in upper shoulder area, police said. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Witnesses told police they saw someone step out of what appeared to be a dark SUV, open fire on the man, get back into the SUV and flee, Perez said. Witnesses on the scene also told police that the victim and the shooter may have had a prior altercation at a nearby restaurant.
No one was in custody as of Sunday afternoon and Area Central detectives were investigating.
This shooting happened not far from two other recent fatal shootings in the Little Village neighborhood.
About two blocks south of this shooting a 22-year-old man was fatally shot on Wednesday, March 21. In that shooting, Ramon Salgado was in an alley in the 2800 block of South Kildare Avenue about 1:13 p.m. when someone in an SUV opened fire on him. Salgado was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead about a half hour later.
Sunday morning's shooting happened about a mile north of where a 6-year-old girl was fatally shot two weeks ago. Six-year-old Aliyah Shell was with her 2-year-old sister, their mother and her boyfriend on the front porch of their home in the 3100 block of South Springfield Avenue about 3:35 p.m. on Saturday, March 17, when she was shot multiple times.
According to court documents filed by the Cook County State's Attorney's office, 16-year-old Luis Hernandez is alleged to have pointed a handgun out the passenger's side window of a gray pickup truck and opened fire at the group. Hernandez has been denied bond and his alleged driver, 18-year-old Juan Barraza, has been ordered held on $2 million bond.
